JS Akebono, JS Yamayuki, JS Hatakaze

Military tourism is making its mark in Sabah with the arrivals of navy ships from across the globe. The Japanese Navy ships – JS Akebono, JS Yamayuki, and JS Hatakaze, made its way to Sepanggar Naval Base on the 25th of February 2016. Sabah Tourism Board welcomed the troops wih traditional garlanding and traditional dances – Sumazau of the Kadazan community of Penampang, and the Anggalang dance of the Murut community. They were also greeted by the children of Kinabalu Japanese School. The Japanese navy’s visit to Sabah was mainly for training purposes, however, they had opportunities for time-off during the weekend to explore Kota Kinabalu city.
