Located between Kuala Penyu and Beaufort town, Klias River, about 2 hours from Kota Kinabalu, is known for its sunset and wildlife cruises. Normally organised as a day tour, this excursion departs from Kota Klias jetty at around 4.30 p.m.
The cruise will start with a cruise to search for the elusive proboscis monkeys, known to habitat the area. Klias are the few areas on the West Coast where you can spot them in a harem. These tree-dwelling animals normally hunt for food in the evenings, hence most boat cruises for this tour start in the evening until sunset hour. Other riverside residents that you can spot are macaques, crocodiles, monitor lizards, tree snakes, and various species of birds such as the eagle.
After the first cruise, you will return to the jetty for dinner prepared by the venue. Once the surroundings turn dark, visitors will be guided back to the jetty and enjoy nature’s light show, illuminated by hundreds of fireflies, a glowing performance for you to marvel at.
If you are looking for this exciting cruise, inquire with your ground handler or any licensed local tour operator to book your cruise. Walk-in is possible, however we recommend to call in-advance to secure a slot on the boat.
