Sabah State Museum & Heritage Village

Your getaway to the rich history and culture of Sabah and Borneo. Located 6 km from the airport, this historic destination invites you to explore the diverse exhibits, spanning four to five different zones, it offers a unique glimpse into the region’s fascinating past and vibrant heritage.

Step inside the main building, inspired by the traditional Rungus longhouse, and discover a treasure trove of artifacts and galleries showcasing Sabah’s ethnography, natural history, ceramics, archeology, and more. Here you are able to marvel at the skeleton of Malaysia’s largest whale while immersing yourself in the stories of the land and its people.

The Science and Technology Centre houses three exhibitions, with the North Borneo Railway carriage being the hotspot for travellers. There’s also a Heritage Village that’s situated within the Ethnobotanical Garden, where you can experience the traditional houses of a few ethnic groups of the state, and also enjoy the diverse types of plants that make up the gardens of the Sabah Museum.

The experience doesn’t stop there! There are also cultural activities that are held here from time to time. Thus, visitors can experience the authentic cultural experience while deepening their understanding of Sabah’s rich history and heritage.
