About the Event.
The first-ever Mount Trusmadi International Climbathon is an exciting and challenging competition
that serves to promote Mount Trusmadi, the second-highest mountain in Malaysia, both locally and
on the global stage. Mount Trusmadi is located in the picturesque highland district of Tambunan,
Sabah, Malaysia. Experience the thrill of ascending and descending the slopes of Mount TrusMadi,
and be part of a first-of-its-kind International Climbathon!
Mount TrusMadi known for its unique pitcher plant, Nepenthes x trusmadiensis, unique to the
mountain alone, this physically demanding race combines mountain climbing and trail running, with
the goal of summiting and completing the course as quickly as possible.
This event is jointly organized by Velocity Running Club, Sabah Forestry Department and the
Tambunan District Office, the International Climbathon invites participants to showcase their
strength and endurance while admiring the breathtaking natural beauty of this mountain's unique
features. The collaboration between these organizations showcases the importance of
environmental conservation, eco-tourism, and the promotion of the natural beauty of the Sabah
region.

Course highlights
The 30km course begins at Gate Kupu-Kupu, featuring an ascent to the Mount TrusMadi Summit,
reaching an estimated total ascent of 2,013 meters. This demanding course encompasses diverse
terrains, including 2km asphalt roads, 19km dirt roads, boardwalk, single trail rainforest and mossy
forests, and rugged terrain. There is 6.6km (combined two-ways) boardwalk section from
approximately KM10.2 to KM13.5. Beyond KM13.5, participants will encounter a technical single trail
through dense mossy forests, navigating steep slopes towards the summit around KM14.9. The
descent to Boardwalk Starting Point follows the same route, providing a demanding yet rewarding
mountain trail experience.
The 21km course begins at Gate Kupu-Kupu, leading participants on a descent to Mirad Irad Base
Camp, further to Boardwalk Starting point, and ultimately looping back to Gate Kupu-Kupu.
Featuring an estimated total ascent of 967 meters, this course covers 2km of asphalt roads and
19km of dirt roads, excluding ascent to the Mount TrusMadi summit. Throughout this adventure,

participants can immerse themselves in the scenic allure of lush rainforest jungles and enjoy breath-
taking mountain views throughout the journey.
